SOFTWARE ENGINEERING ECOSYSTEM

Testing Software Systems
Testing matters for many reasons. Not only is it the area where most of the money goes across the product life cycle but new challenges, such as adaptive software, agile deployment, and artificial intelligence (AI)-driven systems, demand novel test technologies.
Christof Ebert (christof.ebert@vector.com), managing director, Divith Bajaj (divith.bajaj@vector.com), staff member, Vector Consulting Services; Michael Weyrich (michael.weyrich@ias.uni-stuttgart.de), director, Institute for Industrial Automation and Software Engineering, University of Stuttgart.

The Four Opens: Open Source Beyond the Code
The article describes a set of guiding principles that open infrastructure communities, such as OpenStack, use to create and maintain balanced ecosystems around projects and navigate the challenges and intricacies of open collaboration.
Ildiko Vancsa (ildiko@openinfra.dev), senior manager of communities and ecosystems, Open Infrastructure Foundation.

Event Flow-Based Architecture
An event flow-based architecture uses an active event processing network to handle multiple events. In a healthcare information system, the architecture generates clinical and administrative alerts while offering treatment recommendations. The article would be useful both for architects and developers of modern information systems.
Vladimir Malykh (mvl@interin.ru), head of lab, Sergei Rudetsky (rsv@interin.ru), junior fellow, Healthcare Informatics Research Center, A.K. Almazian Program Systems Institute of the RAS (Pereslavl-Zalessky).

PLATFORMS
The Beginning of Functional Accelerator Era
Judging by the recent track record of operating cloud-based and cyberphysical systems, a structuring of compute tasks and topology of infrastructure running them has begun necessary for the hyperautomation of manufacturing, management, and maintenance workflows. The physical layer of the digital transformation infrastructure is currently undergoing a large-scale change.
Alexander Prozorov (aalprozorov@sberbank.ru), fellow, MIPT; Alexei Bakharev (bakharev-ae@rudn.ru). director, Nikolai Gorbachev (gorbachev-nv@rudn.ru), deputy director, Irina Kolzhanova (kolzhanova-ia@rudn.ru), expert, RUDN University Digital Technology Center; Roman Shnyrev (RVShnyrev@sberbank.ru), executive director, New Technology Solutions Lab, Sberbank (Moscow).

SECURITY
TikTok in 2022: Revisiting Data and Privacy
Concerns over data privacy have continued to mount over the years amidst the prevalence of the social media networking service, TikTok. It is imperative to probe further on whether allegations and claims against TikTok hold any substance.
Arief Zulkifli (ariefz@gmail.com), analyst, RAKBank (Dubai).

Adversarial Machine Learning for Protecting Against Online Manipulation
Adversarial examples are inputs to a machine learning system that result in an incorrect output from that system. Attacks launched through this type of input can cause severe consequences: for example, in the field of image recognition, a stop signal can be misclassified as a speed limit indication. However, adversarial examples also represent the fuel for a flurry of research directions in different domains and applications.
Stefano Cresci (s.cresci@iit.cnr.it), researcher, Marinella Petrocchi, senior researcher, IIT-CNR (Italy); Angelo Spognardi (spognardi@di.uniroma1.it), accosiate professor, Sapienza Universita di Roma; Stefano Tognazzi (stefano.tognazzi@uni-konstanz.de), postdoc, University of Konstanz (Germany).

APPLICATIONS
Artificial Intelligence Fights Crop Plant Diseases
Crop losses due to diseases and vermin can be up to 30%, so it is no surprise that in order to improve yields and minimize losses, IT is used extensively these days, particularly artificial intelligence.
Alexander Uzhinsky (auzhinskiy@jinr.ru), lead programmer, Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (Dubna).

OS MEETING ROOM
DIY: Analytics Serving the Business
Present-day companies increasingly make decisions based on data, although when data analytics is performed by the IT department alone, a bottleneck could be created due to the flood of requests from the business that stymies the testing of business hypotheses and making business critical decisions. To access and analyze the necessary information, business users need self-service tools.
Nikolai Smirnov (nsmirnov@osp.ru), editor-in-chief, Chief Information Officer portal, chair of Data Award Organizing Committee (Moscow).

Datacenters in Russia in the Current Environment
While Russian data center market is rapidly growing, with it currently being a seller market, buyers have to rethink their customary choice attitudes. Eventually, state-owned data centers could be created, with competition to cool as a result.
Aleksey Chernobrovtsev (tchern@osp.ru), staff writer, Open Systems Journal (Moscow).

From Reporting to Digital Twins
Any IT project requires not just infrastructure deployments, but first of all new digital services, business data analytics, data monetization models, predictive analytics, or venturing into new business areas. Data and deep analytics platforms, as well as digital data services can help creating the necessary kinds of products.
Nikolai Smirnov (nsmirnov@osp.ru), editor-in-chief, Chief Information Officer portal, chair of Data Award Organizing Committee (Moscow).

OS ACADEMY
New Practical Philosophy: Services, Architecture, Algorithmization
The rapid penetration of AI into the daily life has shown that philosophy concepts now have practical implementation, ceasing to be an abstract theoretical domain. Philosophy is getting to the next level, where the current rapidly changing environment is accounted for.
Marina Anshina (anshina@mail.ru), associate professor, Financial University Under the Government of Russia, board chair of The Russian CIO Union (Moscow).
